I woke up at about 6:30pm and just lay there enjoying the after snooze feeling. About 10 minutes later I felt like I had wet myself a little bit. Went to the loo and all was fine. Got off the loo and bent over and a bigger gush...... Spoke to dh, who called the Labour Ward immediately. They said that I must take it easy, have supper, shower etc and then come in. AND, I will not be discharged without a baby!!!!!!!! Suprisingly enough, I stayed calm. Dh and I had supper, I showered, got my stuff together and off we went. At 12:30, my water broke.
At 4:30 I had my first contraction. It was interesting. Felt like I had a bought of diarrohea or a bad period pain. And then they came very infrequently. dh arrived and was a star - rubbing my back etc. At 5am, my contractions were strong 7 in 10 minutes. That was hell! I wanted to climb the walls. It killed me and I have a high pain threshold.
I asked for the epidural. Which felt like it took ages for the anethatist but thankfully he arrived quite soon. And that was also painful. I think its because I had been in pain for so long that it felt so sore. I even screamed when he put the needle in. But the relief was instantaneous!!!!! It was awesome. My baby girl was delivered and placed on my arms as Craig and I had tears of joy, as we have not seen anything so beautiful. Kimberly is in good hand and I am ready to rest from a long day...
So yesterday was the big day. I was nervous the whole day and I have no
idea why. I think its because I didnt know what to expect. Anyway,
after rushing to meet dh at the hospital, in we go for the scan.
It
was AWESOME! It was amazing to see this liitle human that is griowing
inside of me. I was overwhelmed. When the radiographer left for a
minute or two, dh asked if I was ok. I just said I was speechless - it
was soo awesome.
The first thing I saw was a heartbeat. Then I
was lips moving. Then the radiographer zoomed in and showed us the
head, arms, hands, legs, feet etc. The head and abdomen and femur (long
leg bone) get measured and everything seems fine. There was also a dark
spot in its tummy and bladder which means it is swallowing amniotic
fluid properly and that the kidneys are functioning properly. She also
zoomed in on the heart and umbilical cord and all the right chambers
and vessels are there. The heartbeat was incredible to hear - it sounds
a little like a horse galloping!
She also showed me why I havent
felt any movement yet. My placenta is lying between the baby and by
tummy. That means that whatever movement there is (and believe me there
was a lot on the scan) is being cushioned by the placenta. That was a
relief to find out because I was getting worried.
So, then it
came to find out the sex. And, its a .......GIRL!!!!!!!! It was so
exciting to find out. We really didnt mind which it was but she is really a gift.
